D-Flex March Roundup and Upcoming Connect Events

This last March meeting was one of the best yet! That’s my opinion and I am sticking to it. I would like to know more about what others thought though.

In March we continued making changes to help everyone get on the same page in a very “hands on” way. The meeting started with our usual announcements and hour long training session by Mark Piller. The training session wrapped up basic Actionscript and Classes and went into Components and Layout.

We then recapped what Flex is for the large quantity of new members and then started our presentation for the evening.

The presentation in March was about how to consume an XML document in e4x standard, parse the XML, and convert the XML into typed objects. We demostrated how to do this with XML returned from the Netflix API and then had the entire group break up into small teams to repeat this process on their own XML structures.

We are lucky to have such a wide range of skill levels in our group because many of our more experienced Flex developers worked right along side our new members to teach and help where needed.

We had originally planned to have the presentation taped but in a stroke of genius, I didn’t turn on the recording. Sorry.

This month we also announced we will be giving away 2 360|Flex tickets to the two top contributors to the D-Flix API. I currently have this Google Project available online for checkout. If you want to be apart of this project and contribute, please contact me directly and I will set you up with an account. The recipients will be announced in the April Meeting.

Stay tuned this month, we will be announcing our upcoming Connect sessions soon.
