Queue Manager

If you are on of the 17000+ people that have downloaded and use my Queue Manager Android app I thank you. I am actively working to address each and every comment while continuing to add helpful features.

If you are curious why I created this app then the answer is simple. I wanted to make an easier way for me to manage my Netflix queue. I am a Netflix fanatic and am constantly working with my queue.

I think that you could add browseing to it that. would make it easier to add to the queues. I hope. your. able. to add all categories that. the. netflixs has so we don’t. have to go on the web site all the time. so that we can have it easier time with the application

Jonathan CamposOctober 10th, 2010 at 8:13 am

@shown I am definitely working to add that. Sadly netflix doesn’t have a way to pull movies by categories. But I am trying to find a way to get the same effect with the current calls.

BigdogOctober 11th, 2010 at 12:19 am

I’m running on rooted Nexus 1 and running CyanogenMod 6.

I’m having problems loading any kind of data.

Jonathan CamposOctober 11th, 2010 at 9:41 am

@Bigdog
Thank you for the information. Can I ask when you tried hitting the services and if you have tried again today? I ask because yesterday in the afternoon I received another email from the Netflix automated service that I have reached my daily limit. I am suspecting that you fell victim to this and was unable to load data because of the limit being reached.

BigdogOctober 11th, 2010 at 11:53 am

Hey Jonny. I tried again today. I’m running the most up to date version of the app as well.

I’m on wifi and it’s 10 am local time. All I get is the loading image at the top but it never really loads anything.

Jonathan CamposOctober 11th, 2010 at 1:16 pm

@Bigdog
What timezone are you in? Netflix is alerting me that an issue may be if the timezone from the server is far off from the user. There are things I can add to make this fix, I am just curious if this might be it.

BigDogOctober 11th, 2010 at 1:25 pm

We can try it. I’m in the Los Angeles area (-8).

derek knoxOctober 11th, 2010 at 5:50 pm

If a .swf file is deployed as an AIR for Android app, but the same app is made available online, would it be safe to say that the AIR for Android version would run better, smoother, faster? I’m asking because it seems as if a .swf file that gets loaded and cached via the browser would run very similar to, if not the same, as a .swf run locally on a client machine. My logic is, since it it’s cached, there is a copy on the machine, correct me if I’m wrong. And thanks for all the android info you have here, just got my Droid X and I’ll be testing things shortly.

JacobOctober 11th, 2010 at 9:06 pm

I like it but it’s very sluggish on my droid 1

Jonathan CamposOctober 12th, 2010 at 8:48 am

@Jacob Don’t worry I am doing all I can to improve performance :) Thank you though for the comment

Jonathan CamposOctober 12th, 2010 at 10:27 am

@derek I would think it a bit hard to compare the two. As one is an AIR file and one is a browser file. While both are SWF files the functionality could be very different. All things being the same though I would say that the browser version would run better being that the machine is probably better. Now if the computer you are running on is 10 years old with a dialup modem then maybe not – but more than likely your laptop/desktop will be much more powerful than your mobile device.

Glad the rest can help!

SteveOctober 12th, 2010 at 11:41 am

Would you consider adding page navigation to the bottom of the queue list? For awhile, I thought the app was cutting off after the first 25 titles in my Instant Queue until I finally realized that I had to press the Menu button and then press Next page. Would be handy if a navigation button was right there at the bottom of the list instead, but I’m really just being picky…

Jonathan CamposOctober 12th, 2010 at 12:09 pm

@steve I’ll ask my designer :) I like the idea though. There is that fine line between too much on the screen and not enough. I am working in the next version releases to have gestures for paging along with the menu. So you can do a two finger swipe and move pages. Just a thought I’m playing with right now.

derek knoxOctober 13th, 2010 at 3:03 pm

@Jonathan – I don’t know if I was clear enough. Say the exact same .swf file is published as an AIR for Android app and also available online. If you were to use the exact same mobile device, say a Nexus 1, would it be safe to say that the AIR app would run smoother, faster, better? I’m aware what the .swf file is and does plays a huge role, but generally speaking, if two different publish strategies of the same .swf are viewed on the same mobile device, is one solution significantly more effecient?

Jonathan CamposOctober 13th, 2010 at 3:48 pm

@derek That is a good question. I would say that the two “should” be the same. If they are not the difference probably wouldn’t be huge. The question is really which player is better, air or fp?

Whoson1stOctober 15th, 2010 at 11:09 pm

The app has unlimited potential, granted it does have its fair share of workable bugs. Thus far the overall feel for the app is clean cut and surprisingly smooth. If I was a newcomer onto the smartphone market, I would say it was an app published by Netflix itself, yet legally I think that would be a debacle of its own. The solid features list gives it a comfortable to get around feel, by providing concise icon to its particular field. Bug wise, adding titles to the que tends to get out of control real fast, and once inside the detail page for a title the menu is used only for rating, rate the menu and break it into subdivisions, rating, search, home, and disc type.

Whoson1stOctober 15th, 2010 at 11:12 pm

, take* the menu and break it

Jonathan CamposOctober 15th, 2010 at 11:43 pm

@whoson1st thank you for the kind words and great constructive critisism. Today while working on the app I found the queue removal bug that you commented on before. I hadn’t seen it earlier but I was surprised when I found it. I will be making a monster release soon. I feel like I am almost to being feature complete, but that means I get to start innovations then :)

Again, feel free to always write. While the android market comments are helpful they don’t allow for any back and forth as I try to diagnose any found bugs or feature requests.

TylerOctober 18th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Stuck @ loading screen on Droid 1. On my wifi @ home.

Jonathan CamposOctober 18th, 2010 at 6:23 pm

@Tyler thank you for the comment. Sadly I’ve hit the daily api limit with netflix and there is nothing I can do about it that I haven’t done in the past.:( please try again tomorrow and let’s see if things change. We have had a huge surge of downloads today.

Whoson1stOctober 18th, 2010 at 7:30 pm

Hi Jonathan, just what exactly is going on in the market?

Jonathan CamposOctober 18th, 2010 at 7:34 pm

@Whoson1st It’s embarrassing but I had the app id wrong and eventually needed to make the change :) You can’t change the app id once it’s in the market. Lesson learned.

Whoson1stOctober 18th, 2010 at 8:01 pm

So you changed the id to what? They both look identical if you ask me.

Jonathan CamposOctober 18th, 2010 at 10:10 pm

I won’t say. It will give away another project I am working on :) if you figure it out that is cool though :)

Whoson1stOctober 19th, 2010 at 2:15 am

The browse option by category is cool, yet your’e missing the option for Blu-ray. You need to implement it into your catergories. HD, is not Blu-ray. If it was, then it would be a gimmick right?…. ;-D . On the other hand you still have a pesky bug on the log-out process. When selecting for the menu to come up on the main screen it somehow glitches, delaying the on screen visual of the pop up sequence, then once you select log out, that’s when the log-out bug manifests…. Re-directing the acct back to initial acct linkage, {not cool} I should feel comfortable knowing that at anytime I wish to do so, I can thoroughly log my acct off the app. Let me know when you have the finished product and I’ll re-install aswell as to review again.

P.S. Your’e almost there.

Jonathan CamposOctober 19th, 2010 at 8:51 am

@Whoso1st Wow you are fast on it! I will be adding in much more to the categories system. I just needed to get something in there for browse to show people it was coming. I will add one more level of detail to the categories and also be adding filter options for search and browse to look at just instant/dvd/bluray results.

I will also be adding bluray options vs dvd. Right now it does fall back to your requested default but it will be good to have that visual indicator.

I am also working on a workaround for the logout bug. As you see in my known issues it is something that netflix is working on. I will try to make a lasting solution too.

Thanks again for all the feedback, as you can tell I am working fast to get this up to “amazing” levels. Thank you for the patience you’re having with this.

DavidOctober 20th, 2010 at 6:14 pm

Any chance we’ll see support of switching among multiple queues under the same master account? Netflix tried to kill multiple queues a year or two ago, so maybe they deprecated it in the API. Right now, I can only access my wife’s queue and not our shared TV series queue nor my own… any thoughts? Thanks & best wishes for doing this!

Jonathan CamposOctober 21st, 2010 at 10:07 am

@David Thanks for the comment. Right now there isn’t a “simple” way to manage multiple accounts due to the way that you have to access an account with Netflix. You could logout and log back in and get access. There is a bug with this on Netflix side though that I am having issues programming around. Details on this bug are here.

Whoson1stOctober 21st, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Hey Jonathan, you have made a mess out of something so simple lol, the subcategories is a really cool idea but it becomes a cluster F* as soon as you step in there. The bottom screen pop-up menus don’t have a clean exit with the back button, aswell as for the blu-ray option, good try, honest. Look I don’t want you to think that I’m just trying to grind you to a pulp, I’m not, its just the fact that your app is by far the only candidate in the list with a promising portal to the goods and services provided by netflix. Once again, not trying to beat you down, just trying to build you up. Sincerely, Whoson1st.

docpregoOctober 22nd, 2010 at 8:09 pm

Looking very good so far. The interface is very slick but I have a few suggestions:

1. Continue to improve performance. Scrolling on my EVO is significantly choppier than other apps. This is my main (really only) criticism of the app.

2. Add links to movie reviews from the individual movie details pages. IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes would be ideal.

3. Offer the option to make the movie art larger on the individual queue pages. I realize this would be at the expense of having fewer movies on the screen at once but I would personally prefer that.

4. I agree with another poster that suggested to put the page navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen instead of within the menu called up by the hardware menu key.

These are all constructive suggestions to improve what is already a great app.

Jonathan CamposOctober 22nd, 2010 at 11:36 pm

@docprego Thanks for the comments, let me respond in turn.

1. Definitely. I will keep working on this.

2. I have been thinking of connecting to other sources, that is not thought of till later though so I can get the base functionality first. However I do love the thought.

3. I can make them a bit larger but you have 2 downsides. The amount of time it takes to download the image and te amount of images that can be included. Thoughts?

4. That is being worked on as we speak. This was a great idea and will be taken care of. :)

Thanks for the constructive criticism.

TedOctober 24th, 2010 at 1:24 pm

Version 1.0.27 won’t stop trying to install on my Droid 1 (2.2). I have installed 1.0.37 and it seems to work okay, but still get old version trying to install. Is there a way to cancel it out?

Jonathan CamposOctober 24th, 2010 at 1:43 pm

@Ted have you tried to just completely uninstall that app? I will not be making additions to that app and would prefer you just uninstall completely. At that point there shouldn’t be any more installs on that version.

briangdeOctober 24th, 2010 at 2:50 pm

Love the app so far. Is it possible to add a widget? The widget could show status if movie rec’d or shipped, maybe show new titles added to netflix on the widget. Will NF not allow droids to do instant streaming? If so is there anyway you could do a work around? Running DroidX. Keep up the great work! I would def pay a buck for this if you started charging for it, but no more then a buck though :-)

docpregoOctober 24th, 2010 at 8:07 pm

Nice update, the arrows on the bottom of the screen for navigation are great! Another suggestion: in addition to links to IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes reviews, showing Netflix user reviews would be very useful! Perhaps even allow a user to rate a movie directly within your app.

Jonathan CamposOctober 24th, 2010 at 8:25 pm

@docprego you can rate currently by hitting the menu button when you are looking at title details. To write a review or retrieve netflix reviews you can’t. Sadly this is a limitation and feature that the netflix api doesn’t provide to me. Sorry.

Jonathan CamposOctober 24th, 2010 at 8:28 pm

@briangde sadly netflix doesn’t provide any way (yet) for me to stream movies or I definitely would. And getting air for Android to allow for widgets is something I am currently working with Adobe on. As soon as I have the ability I will add it in. Thanks for the comments and feel free to throw out more.

SteveOctober 24th, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Hey Jonathan, just noticed you implemented my earlier suggestion of navigation arrows onscreen. Thanks for listening – I like it!
Steve

shawnOctober 25th, 2010 at 12:40 pm

Hi I just added toy story 3 and it dose not show in my dvds even though it is not out yet it should show up I don’t know it it is a glitch or not much what can you tell me about this

Jonathan CamposOctober 25th, 2010 at 12:48 pm

@shawn it isn’t actually a glitch, but I can see how there is a confusion. You can find movies and add movies that arent available yet. When they are available they will be added to your queue. I could see me adding in the future a list of available and a list of unavailable titles rather than just available.

Whoson1stOctober 26th, 2010 at 12:51 pm

AWESOME! I no longer need to go through every subcategory, in order to find blu-ray titles. Now all your missing is the menu setup, and hey Jonathan, the rating menu still has the same bug of hitting the back button and taking me to the previous screen instead of clearing the bottom screen pop up menu. Until next time this is Whoson1st, signing out. PEACE. P.S. the idea given to you by Steve of the bottom screen navigation tools is indeed pretty nice. Ttyl

Whoson1stOctober 26th, 2010 at 12:53 pm

By the way, good luck in the WORLD SERIES, San Fran, shouldn’t be a problem for you guys, given that WE THE YANKEES weren’t. Lol

JustinOctober 26th, 2010 at 4:44 pm

Would be great to be able to see the user ratings.

Jonathan CamposOctober 26th, 2010 at 6:32 pm

@Justin I’m working on a redesign for the catalog title view, but you can see the rating if you hit the menu button

d0xOctober 26th, 2010 at 7:19 pm

I emailed you the other day about a general list of new instant movies and You added it right away…amazing! This app is so damn good id gladly pay for it. I look forward to future updates. Like the Guy said above IMDB links would be sweet but not required. Keep up the great work.

TedOctober 26th, 2010 at 8:35 pm

I tried uninstalling the only version I could find, the newer 1.0.37. I even uninstalled Adobe Air, but the older version is still unsuccessfully trying to install itelf on the download page. Again, a Droid 1, with rooted 2.2. I also have Titanium, if that makes any difference (no backup of Queue Manager, though). Surely there must be some way to turn this thing off.

Jonathan CamposOctober 28th, 2010 at 3:07 pm

@Ted very strange. I wonder if there is anything up with your root

shawnNovember 1st, 2010 at 6:11 pm

I was thinking do you think you could do app2sd that would help people that don’t have a lot of space

Jonathan CamposNovember 1st, 2010 at 6:52 pm

@shawn as you probably know my app runs on adobe air and app2sd isn’t something that adobe air currently supports without you making some changes on your own system. But it is something that many people (myself included) have requested as a feature. When it is available I will make the change immediately.

Jonathan CamposNovember 2nd, 2010 at 9:48 am

@shawn I (happily) misspoke. I found in the docs where I can add in app2sd very easily. I really can’t believe I missed this earlier. You will see an update shortly with the addition. I am working on quite a few improvements that should make lots of people happy.

Jonathan CamposNovember 2nd, 2010 at 9:50 am

@Ted I recently run into this problem with another app and found the solution. Go to your settings > applications > running applications > market. Stop the app and clear the cache. The bug is in the market. But this will fix your installs. HTH

EFNovember 4th, 2010 at 5:12 am

One issue (bug or by design?) that I have that bothers me is when I look through Browse –> Latest Instant category and move through the different pages to see a title that looks interesting and select it, whether I choose to add to my DVD/Instant queue or not, when I hit the back button on the phone, it always takes me back to page 1. Ideally it would take me back to the same page of listings I was originally on, since loading each page takes a while, even on WiFi, it becomes a tedious process.

I looked up through the comments and I didn’t see a similar comment, so I thought I would post this.

Thank you for your hard work. The features on this app have no rival on the market. Thank you for making us Netflix fiends lives easier.

Jonathan CamposNovember 4th, 2010 at 8:58 am

@EF No you are definitely the first. I am going to check that first thing. The caching logic should be smarter than that.

habasNovember 17th, 2010 at 12:04 pm

I um… you’re app doesn’t show up in the market for me. I’ve seen screen shots and it looks awesome, and I’ve got my heart set on getting it, but I just can’t download it.

Jonathan CamposNovember 17th, 2010 at 3:09 pm

@habas Are you running Android 2.2 on your device? That is a minimum requirement.

BrandonNovember 18th, 2010 at 10:55 am

I have to second this. Droid X running 2.2 I have your app installed, but if i do a search for it, or do “other applications” when looking at Queue Manager in my “downloads” section, there is nothing there. i’m not sure when it stopped showing up… may have been after the AIR update last week…

Jonathan CamposNovember 18th, 2010 at 10:58 am

@brandon I agree and see this now too. I have an email in to the Adobe air team and want to know what is going on. I’m sorry for this and am watching it too.

David BNovember 22nd, 2010 at 11:16 am

Any chance you can post a direct download of the app?

Jonathan CamposNovember 23rd, 2010 at 11:45 am

@David Will do very shortly. I am working with adobe why the app left the market.

jestepNovember 27th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Not sure if this has been mentioned but I would like to see the availability of the dvd (long wait, short wait, now, etc….) otherwise this ap is absolutely perfect and appreciate your work. I would gladly pay for this app. Great work on it.

Jonathan CamposNovember 29th, 2010 at 9:00 am

@jestep thanks for the idea and praise. I could add that into the queue information but not the general search. That info is only available on a title once the title is in your queue. I will work to add that in an upcoming release.

Avi15November 30th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

One of my favorite apps, thanks for all your time and effort,

BrandonNovember 30th, 2010 at 8:37 pm

I’m sure you have other reports of this… It locks up after “token received” . Running droid x 2.2

Alex ParrishDecember 24th, 2010 at 9:51 am

I tried to install Queue Manager on my Android phone but it will not install. I have an Optimus T with T-Mobile running Android 2.2 version 10L (or 10I ? – it’s the most recent update). Please let me know what I am doing wrong or if this will not work with my phone. Thank you.

Jonathan CamposDecember 24th, 2010 at 11:09 pm

@alex I’m not aware of any reason why the install would fail. Can you tell me what happened? Did you try again or just once? Is there anything else that you can think of that may have caused this?

pr0fe550r t0mJanuary 1st, 2011 at 8:19 pm

Good app. Filtering for instant-only would make it wonderful. Also would like to search based on awards received or nominated for. A multi-choice award filter would give mist flexibility. I’m a developer and may write this.do you collaborate?

Jonathan CamposJanuary 1st, 2011 at 8:26 pm

@tom Some of these filtering options aren’t available by Netflix api by I am trying some other ways to get this information. On this app I’m open for suggestions but not really open to collaborate.

MichaelJanuary 18th, 2011 at 9:47 pm

Very nice application. I love the comment in your release notes “I’m a programmer not a writer”. I say the same thing once a week at work.

I would love to be able to only view instant view movies. I don’t get discs from netflix.

Also, you mention that you can add movies to your cue that are still in theaters. This is not true for instant cue, this is a netflix issue but might be worthy of an asterisk.

Nice job, please keep up the good work.

jonbcamposJanuary 18th, 2011 at 10:03 pm

@Michael Thanks for the praise. Those are also great notes, I’ll definitely work on it. Feel free to ping whenever

LeslieJanuary 20th, 2011 at 1:27 pm

Hi,
For some reason, the Queue Manager pages aren’t fitting on to the screen of my Droid Pro. I’m missing some of the icons — both in portrait and landscape mode. It’s running 2.2.1.
Am I doing something wrong? (Or have I not read all the previous posts…)
Many thanks!

jonbcamposJanuary 20th, 2011 at 1:36 pm

@Leslie That is actually a fairly complex issue that is currently being worked on. In an upcoming release you should see a fix that improves the visual appearance for all users – most noticeably the Droid Pro users. I understand that this doesn’t help you immediately but I hope this leaves you feeling assured that it is coming soon.

LeslieJanuary 20th, 2011 at 1:54 pm

thanks for responding – I’m hoping it’ll work! (You don’t need to post this.)

LindseyFebruary 1st, 2011 at 1:34 pm

I can’t add stuff to my queue… what kind of place is this?

jonbcamposFebruary 1st, 2011 at 1:38 pm

@Lindsey That is very strange. Please give me a bit more info as to your issue and I’ll be happy to see what the issue is. Is it a particular title or all titles? And instant or disc?

DavidFebruary 26th, 2011 at 2:59 pm

The most recent update keeps looping. I go to install it, seems to go through the motions but afterward it still shows update available. I have the Atrix.

gooniegoogooMarch 1st, 2011 at 7:34 pm

Love the app…but there is an issue on XOOM
it always says it needs an update on the marketplace after installation….
You download the update….it says it installs…but the update button reappears

jonbcamposMarch 1st, 2011 at 11:01 pm

@Gooniegoogoo It was actually a bug with the apk that I created. A new version (1.2.7) just went up to fix the issue.

CobraBKeXMarch 2nd, 2011 at 9:07 pm

Can anyone actually tell me why many Android users are the biggest idiots on the planet? I swear I go through the comments on the app where people rate it low because it can’t play movies. People are just so dumb, even though the name of the app is “Queue Manager” and the description doesn’t mention anything about playing videos, and it is impossible for 3rd party developers to create things to play Netflix videos (and never will be possible, only Netflix will have control of this), people still bitch about it not being able to play videos. People also bitched for the short time you had the looping update bug, even though the bug issue was known and a warning message was at the very top!

So I will just put this on the comments and try to occasionally bump it back to the top:
Great QUEUE manager. Too bad people can’t learn to read though. EVERYBODY: This is not made by Netflix and CANNOT and WILL NEVER play videos! This is simply a QUEUE MANAGER just as it describes! So DO NOT BITCH that it can’t play videos or give low remarks because it won’t play videos. THIS APP IS NOT FOR PLAYING VIDEOS. You will have to WAIT until Netflix is able to release their official app on the Android platform. This author CANNOT release an app that plays videos, just prepare and queue your videos JUST AS IT DESCRIBES :)

jonbcamposMarch 2nd, 2011 at 9:26 pm

@CobraBKeX wow…

NickMarch 14th, 2011 at 11:13 pm

This app is amazing. :D

Small thought: is there any way you could implement bulk queue remove? If not, it’s cool. I’m just too lazy to remove one-by-one.

jonbcamposMarch 15th, 2011 at 10:45 am

@nick That is a great point. Something to keep in mind for later releases. Thanks :)

JohnMarch 18th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

The older version had ability to add/remove disc or add/remove instant. What happened? I feel I would rather return to the older version.

jonbcamposMarch 19th, 2011 at 12:59 am

@John @Andrea Netflix recently made a change to their api. One that introduced many bugs in the general api, you can see me complaining with a few other api consumers here:

http://developer.netflix.com/forum/read/109246

Hopefully Netflix will have a fix soon or revert their code, once this is fixed then all the services should be back and top notch.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hensley RobertsMarch 20th, 2011 at 10:42 pm

I have the Android app and I do not see a way to add a movie to my queue after finding a movie via search.

jonbcamposMarch 21st, 2011 at 10:03 am

@Hensley

This is an issue that was caused by an update to the Netflix api. They are working on it and I am sadly unable to do anything until the issue is repaired on their side. Thank you for the note though and I will be doing all I can to keep this application running.

warrenMarch 25th, 2011 at 1:09 pm

I was so mad at you until I read the reason why the add/remove was not working . keep up the good work . I love this app .

jonbcamposMarch 25th, 2011 at 1:22 pm

@Warren thanks for the reprieve. :)

MikelMarch 29th, 2011 at 10:18 am

So ddid any of the code get fixed like you thought it would on the 28th? Any word on a fix yet? Keep up the good work, awesome app!

jonbcamposMarch 29th, 2011 at 10:20 am

@Mikel I didn’t know what time they would do the code update, so I gave them the full day and evening. As soon as I woke up this morning I ran my tests and they failed. I immediately shot them an email asking for an update and no response yet. We will see. Trust me that I am annoyed with this too. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

kmannMarch 31st, 2011 at 6:09 pm

Unable to locate app on the Market, even from direct link – shows a message that the item I am looking for is unavailable. Downloaded the .apk file from another link, but it will not install even with 3rd party permission. Any insight as to what might be happening?

jonbcamposApril 4th, 2011 at 4:14 pm

@kmann not sure what the issue is as there are many other people able to find it (myself included). Do you have a custom build or anything?

MikeApril 7th, 2011 at 3:49 pm

what font do you use for the splash screen? In the attached link, the font for “Netflix” and “Queue Manager” is really cool looking. I like the thinness of it.

jonbcamposApril 7th, 2011 at 9:13 pm

@Mike, not sure, I’ll ask my designer :)

hkApril 9th, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Great app. Thanks for creating it. Now is there a way to sort (by release date, alphabetically, or prduction date) movies when you browse through categories?
that would make it perfect.
Thanks. and keep up the good work.

johnApril 12th, 2011 at 10:21 am

This app works fine on my wife’s iPhone but has problems on my HTC thunderbolt. Is this common and should I seek a different app for t-bolt?
O

jonbcamposApril 12th, 2011 at 10:25 am

@John You can try a different application but any non-official Netflix apps will have the same problem. The “official” application (on the iPhone) has a different authentication system.

ChrisApril 18th, 2011 at 1:06 pm

Is this application safe and private for my own using?

jonbcamposApril 18th, 2011 at 1:12 pm

@Chris
Yes it is. I don’t get your password, contact information, billing information, or actually anything. I create access to the Netflix API and you directly talk to that api. I store zero data about the user or your queues.

Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
You can see exactly what information I have access to via the Netflix API:
http://developer.netflix.com/

customerApril 29th, 2011 at 9:16 am

Can you make it so we can rearrange our queues by sliding them around like the gamecenter app does?

gabiApril 29th, 2011 at 12:03 pm

Re: netflix queue app
Thank you for creating a netflix queue app! I am curious if there is a faster way to add titles? I have a very long list and it’s time consuming to go into each detail page to add. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter. Hope to hear from you soon.

jonbcamposMay 2nd, 2011 at 11:15 am

@gabi Good suggestion. This is certainly something I am working on. More than likely any future productivity enhancements (which require more development) will be in the paid version that I will be putting out soon.

jonbcamposMay 2nd, 2011 at 1:08 pm

@Customer working on something similar. Won’t be exact, I’m not really a fan of drag and drop lists with mobile.

BwiseMay 5th, 2011 at 4:13 pm

Nice work on queue manager! Definitely using it to show clients feasibility of flash/flex for android. One question though…How did you manage to get the UI components to scale properly for different device DPIs? More specifically, I notice it works well and is the right size on the atrix, where tour de flex and my own apps are not. How did you detect which devices are reporting wrong DPIs, etc? I also wonder how many report the wrong DPI and how to get them all into an exception rule to fix them…seems a bit crazy.

jonbcamposMay 5th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

@Bwise

I’m glad you like it and that is a great question.
That was actually something that took a bit of work but once done everything looks beautiful. Check out these article:
http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Override+Default+Density+Mapping
http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/CSS+Media+Query
http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/Using+Different+Bitmaps+Based+On+Screen+DPI

Explaining the exact how would take longer than what I could fit into a comment :)

ChrisMay 9th, 2011 at 5:15 am

Hi Jonathan-

Just downloaded Queue Manager for BlackBerry PlayBook. The app looks great and is very easy to use.

I did have a couple of issues though. As one of the reviewers posted, images from Netflix are not loading. I’m not sure if this is the app’s fault or a limit from the Netflix API. I also wasn’t able to add anything to my queue, but I’ll try again later. Other than those two thing, I haven’t noticed any problems.

Even with the above, browsing works great and will come in handy with the PS3 version of Netflix, which has almost no way to casually browse the entire library or all categories.

One last bit of feedback from my little bit of use, since you left the request in the App World description: I found myself feeling worried that I would hit the home button instead of the back button while browsing around. Their sizes are fine on screen, but the arrangement is uncomfortable. Perhaps they could be split up with the home button in the top right corner which is now empty and leaving the back button in the left corner where I believe most users would expect it to be from other mobile experiences.

Looking forward to whatever comes next for the app.

jonbcamposMay 9th, 2011 at 9:55 am

@Chris

When it comes to the missing cover art, this is definitely a bug that I am working actively on. What is making this difficult is the fact that some users see the images with no problem and some don’t. I’m wondering if it has something to do with the Netflix server that the user is hitting or their system. Either way, I am working on it.

Let me know what title you were trying to add. I am debugging these issues right now. Instant titles seem to work well, but there are some bugs with adding discs that is known to Netflix – and they are on the bug. I’ve found just adding the titles twice fixes the problem. What is weird is the the first request comes back successfully but just doesn’t commit the request. Long story short – I’ve been bugging netflix on this.

Glad you like the browsing abilities! I worked to make it as easy as possible.

I’ve been debating taking the home button out, but it would be annoying to get around if you’d been surfing similar titles and got pretty deep. I’d prefer to not split the home and back as I’m wanting to keep navigation on the left and action items (see the search screen) on the right. This is what I’ve seen from most mobile apps. Feel free to ping back with some apps to look at that you’ve seen your request. I’d be happy to see it.

StefanieMay 10th, 2011 at 10:07 am

Any idea why I can’t install this on my LG Optimus V? When I scan the QR code, I get a message saying “There are no matches in Android Market for the search: pname:air.com.unitedmindset.QueueManager.”

When I try the direct download link from a browser page viewed on my phone, the file downloads, but when I open it and click the Install button, I get an error message saying “Application not installed.”

Any other suggestions for me? Thanks much!

sarahMay 10th, 2011 at 10:25 am

I switched from the iphone to an android and thats one thing i really miss is watching movies from my phone. Any chance of that happening for the androids soon?

ReidMay 11th, 2011 at 8:02 pm

A small request… Put the “add to instant” button on the available movies when in “Title Search” area of the app. Seems to work great when in the “Browse” section. Other than that I love it. very helpful.
Thanks.

jonbcamposMay 12th, 2011 at 1:38 pm

@Stefanie I have no idea why you can’t install the application? Are you running a custom rom or anything else?

jonbcamposMay 12th, 2011 at 1:38 pm

@Sarah from what I know from Netflix, they are working on the problem but “soon”, that I can’t promise. Sadly it doesn’t look like this will be an Android feature soon.

jonbcamposMay 12th, 2011 at 1:39 pm

@Reid Definitely. I’ll add it in on an upcoming release. More than likely this will be a “Pro” version feature addition.

StefanieMay 12th, 2011 at 1:44 pm

I don’t even know what a custom rom is, so nope, I’m pretty sure I’m not running one. :-) I thought perhaps that “No matches in Android Market” message would be something other people had encountered too, but perhaps not.

jonbcamposMay 12th, 2011 at 1:46 pm

@Stefanie lol okay. Thought I would ask. If you email me directly netflixqueueumanager [at] gmail.com I’ll be happy to send you a direct download copy.

Bill KMay 19th, 2011 at 2:50 pm

This stems from NetFlix side, but maybe you can help (or at least pass along to N). I subscribe to Instant only. So I don’t want to see recommendations for DVDs. Can you filter out recommended dvd’s, or at least provide me the option to filter by format? I would love that! Great job. Thanks so much! Bill

ChrisMay 19th, 2011 at 7:09 pm

Hi John – Just got the PlayBook update and am happy to report no issues. Everything appears to be working great, and even faster than the previous version. I’m getting used to the placement of the Back button. It was strange at first with the only constant mobile touch experiences being with the iPhone. It also didn’t occur to me before that Queue Manager was created for Android first, which has the hardware back button.

jonbcamposMay 19th, 2011 at 8:00 pm

@Bill You are right that it is a Netflix side. I have been thinking of some ideas of how to get around this lack of feature, but it will require lots of polling the database. So it may be slow. But I could create some option.

jonbcamposMay 19th, 2011 at 8:00 pm

@Chris Thanks for the info. I am continuing to work on this app and hoping to make it work better for this form factor.

VictorMay 22nd, 2011 at 8:07 am

Plz make netflix be able 2 stream movies instantly like on iphone/windows phone thanks im know im not the only one askin for this conflict to be available so once its fixed more ppl will be happy and also will download the app in a blink of an eye but im not trying to rush anybody but please again take my comment in consideration

jonbcamposMay 22nd, 2011 at 6:36 pm

@Victor I’m completely on your side. Sadly there is little I can do force netflix to make these changes. I do let them know of the issues people are asking about and will let them know of this issue.

sjhartMay 23rd, 2011 at 8:50 pm

When using Queue Manager, I’m unable to save TV shows to my instant queue. Is there a way for me to do this? I don’t have a problem saving movies, but only TV shows.

jonbcamposMay 23rd, 2011 at 11:15 pm

@sjhart You are actually finding a bug with the netflix api that they have been working on. The netflix blog talks about the big changes they are making to series, sadly they aren’t complete yet. Sorry for that.

dawnJune 7th, 2011 at 11:12 am

I am new to netflix & am trying to organize my queue, heck I can’t add or organize anything in my queue. It keeps telling me that my instant queue is being updated & to try again in 30 seconds. I’m now on my 3rd day of receiving this code. What am I doing wrong?
otherwise, I have enjoyed this app to browse & search through the movies available.
thank you for your time.

DougJune 9th, 2011 at 9:28 am

Just loaded the BB PlayBook version. It shows the title page, then Authenticate screen, which has a red banner at top, rest of screen is blank. Any thoughts?

jonbcamposJune 9th, 2011 at 9:30 am

@doug very odd. the only thing I can think of is that the netflix oauth authentication page may be down for a second. You may just want to wait a bit and try again. Sorry for that, the page in question I don’t have access over.

jonbcamposJune 9th, 2011 at 9:31 am

@dawn sadly the issue isn’t anything to do with you or I. Right now netflix is having issues with their moving of titles with the api. I am hoping for them to release a fix soon.

frank zamanJune 13th, 2011 at 10:25 pm

Just saw your 5 devices video, nice. FYI, to get the playbook out of sleep mode you can swipe from bezel to bezel (topbottom or sideside). Great work.

kelvinJuly 10th, 2011 at 1:11 am

Netflix Ap. It would be very nice when using the search field for a film that when you type in the first few words or letters, that there be a drop down of possible titles. I find this very helpful on Netflix website when you are not completely sure the name of a film.

jonbcamposJuly 11th, 2011 at 9:39 am

@kelvin Great idea. It will be something I will most likely be adding into the pro version shortly. It’s a feature I’d been working on. My worry has been that it might effect performance.

johnJuly 13th, 2011 at 10:49 am

When I try to remove an item from my instant queue, the app hangs and does not remove the item.

jonbcamposJuly 13th, 2011 at 10:52 am

@john odd. it just worked for me. I’ll try to recreate your issue. What netflix account do you have? instant+disc? instant only? disc only?

johnJuly 13th, 2011 at 4:55 pm

Sorry, I told you the wrong queue. It is the saved discs queue. I have a disc & instant account.

Vince R. Cowart Sr.July 30th, 2011 at 4:00 pm

It would be nice if I could use this on my Lg.

TyrellAugust 6th, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I saw on your app that you wanted beta testers. I will be willing to test it

Patrick SeehuetterSeptember 19th, 2011 at 6:01 pm

Are you going to change the name of the app when they change there name?

ryanSeptember 26th, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Good job on the app…it runs great on my HTC inspire. Loads very fast……..only thing that’s wrong right now is some categories won’t load, but I’m not gonna uninstall it. Just will wait for some updates. I’ll be waiting patiently lol

jonbcamposSeptember 26th, 2011 at 6:51 pm

@ryan A few people have shown interest in beta testing, I have a new version with them that fixes the categories. I should be getting it out very soon! thanks for the comment!

rplus3September 28th, 2011 at 5:38 pm

GREAT APP! Works exactly as described. Must have app 4 netflix members, does everything the official netflix app should. Keep up the good work! Much thx to developer(s)! HTC Sensation

michaelOctober 9th, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Some movies when selected don’t show the instance stream option even when it is available. No other problems besides that so far. Great work

hunnyOctober 24th, 2011 at 10:54 am

does not work with playbook os 2.0. after installation whne i start it it asks me to login. ghe moment i click on the userbame field the keyboard comes up and it crashes.

jonbcamposOctober 24th, 2011 at 10:57 am

@Hunny Thank you that is good to know. I have been waiting to download the playbook 2.0 beta but haven’t been given the ability to yet. I’m sorry for this issue, there is very little I can do till they allow me in. I’ve been checking every few hours with no luck :(

PatrickOctober 27th, 2011 at 8:33 pm

This is great – how did you figure out the app intents to pop open the Netflix app to the right video stream?

jonbcamposOctober 27th, 2011 at 8:35 pm

@patrick lots of research :)

RonOctober 28th, 2011 at 8:07 am

I like this app. One issue I found is that when looking at new Instant Movies some show up on the list as available but when you try to add to queue you find out they are only available on DVDs. This maybe a Netflix issue not yours.

FrazldNovember 22nd, 2011 at 9:12 am

Sure would be nice to isolate movies to instant only as many of us have purchased the instant access option. Tried using settings to do this but it is set up to include instant and not to exclude dvd/blu. Killer app otherwise so I won’t be asking for a refund – definitely on the right track but sure would be nice to not have to check every title for instant access

jonbcamposNovember 22nd, 2011 at 11:59 am

@frazld I am adding that feature in actually. this will probably go to the pro version. Hope that helps.

EnriqueGonzalezDecember 2nd, 2011 at 4:20 am

Saw your app on App World but it states my current device profile is not supported, I’m guessing the app is not avaliable outside USA. If that is the case, I think you should consider allowing the app to Latin America and the Caribbean as Netflix launched officially here back in August .

jonbcamposDecember 5th, 2011 at 6:05 am

Sadly the netflix api currently only supports Usa even though the service supports other countries.

Kevin BDecember 7th, 2011 at 2:55 pm

Release dates don’t display. Huge bummer. Knowing exact Netflix release dates is essential for new to manage my queue. Anyone know of a Netflix app that displays release dates?

jonbcamposDecember 7th, 2011 at 3:03 pm

@Kevin currently netflix only provides the release year and availability to the netflix system. Are you just wanting to see the exact release date at theaters, dvd, etc?

MikeMarch 19th, 2012 at 1:51 pm

Cannot find Netflix Queue Manager for PlayBook on BB AppWorld. Is the BAR file available for download (to install via side-loading)? Thanks.

jonbcamposMarch 19th, 2012 at 1:57 pm

@Mike I have not resubmitted my app for the Playbook 2.0 so I suspect they took the app off the market. Soon I will spend the time to update the application, just haven’t done it yet. I wouldn’t say that I have a BAR file recommended for sideloading.
